What is the sample rateHow many times per second the sound is measured. 44,100 Hz is the standard for music and CDs, and 48,000 Hz for video.
Which one to choose48,000 Hz for video and most editing programs, 44,100 Hz for music, 16,000 Hz for speech and voice assistants, and 8,000 Hz for the telephone.
Bit depthA WAV can be 16 bit (the standard) or 24 bit (used by some studio programs). A higher bit depth does not add quality to a sound that already exists: it only changes the format.
Higher is not betterGoing from 22,050 to 48,000 Hz makes the file bigger, but the sound is the same. Going lower makes the file smaller and removes the highest frequencies.
MP3 supports sample rates from 8,000 to 48,000 Hz. If you choose a higher one with MP3, the closest valid rate is used and shown in the result line. For rates above 48,000 Hz choose WAV. To change the channels at the same time, use the Stereo to Mono converter.
